The BSG Chemie Piesteritz was a company sports association in the Wittenberg district of Piesteritz . The company sports community was best known for its handball department, which played a total of three seasons in the GDR league . The football department of the club was able to qualify for the FDGB Cup once .

history

On May 13, 1949, the Piesteritz nitrogen works founded the BSG Chemie Piesteritz. The company sports community offered a wide range of sports, including handball , soccer and gymnastics . In the early days, the table tennis department of the BSG was able to win the GDR men's championship in 1950. In addition, the luge athlete Walter Feist briefly belonged to the BSG and was able to win the GDR championship for the BSG in 1951. As a result of German reunification , the members of the BSG Chemie Piesteritz founded the SV Grün-Weiß Wittenberg-Piesteritz as a successor association.

Handball department

history

In the 1981/82 season of the GDR league, the team won the North Season of the GDR League with one point ahead of BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt and thus qualified for the GDR Oberliga . In the season 1982/83 they managed in the first season they missed relegation and had to relegate together with co-promoted SG Dynamo Suhl-Mitte directly. After the team missed the direct resurgence, they won in the 1988/89 season with a point ahead of the BSG ZAB Dessau the relay north of the GDR league and rose again to the GDR handball league. With the withdrawal of SG Dynamo Halle-Neustadt after the first half of the season , the team from Piesteritz got the penultimate place to stay in the 1989/90 season. The 1990/91 season , the last season of the GDR Oberliga, was completed by the team as part of SV Grün-Weiß Wittenberg-Piesteritz .

Football department

history

The soccer team of BSG Chemie Piesteritz was one of the founding communities of the third-class Halle district league, which was established in 1952  . The team was able to stay in the district league for three years, but then had to relegate to the district class, which was fifth class at the time, in 1955. Only in 1961 succeeded in returning to the district league, in which the BSG Chemie was able to assert itself in the following four seasons. When after the end of the 1964/65 season the district league was reduced from two to one season, Piesteritz rose again with rank 12 in the now fourth-class district class. After rising again in 1970, Konstanz finally returned, and the team was able to secure relegation in the district league until the end of the GDR game operations in 1991. The chemists achieved their best result in the 1979/80 season, which they finished with second place.

In 1976 the soccer players of BSG Chemie celebrated the greatest success in their history when they  won the soccer cup of the Halle district after a 1-0 victory over  BSG Progress Weissenfels . This meant that they had also qualified for participation in the  GDR soccer cup competition  in the 1976/77 season. There they were only eliminated after a 2: 2 after extra time on penalties with 3: 4 against the GDR league  club TSG Gröditz  in the first main round.
