BSG Motor Roßlau

The company sports community (BSG) Motor Roßlau is a former sports community from Roßlau , which became known in GDR sport through its handball team .

Structure development

When all sports clubs were banned in the Soviet occupation zone after the end of the Second World War , Rosslauer athletes founded an initially loosely organized sports community in which handball was played predominantly. After the introduction of the system of company sports associations in the eastern zone, SG Roßlau was converted into BSG Schiffswerft Roßlau. After the founding of the central sports association Motor, the BSG had to take over the name “Motor” in 1951.

Handball

The field handball was after the war the most successful sport in Roßlau. In 1950 the BSG shipyard qualified for the GDR field handball championship, which was held for the first time in league form. It was played in two seasons, and the Roßlauer reached the championship final as the season winner. With the cast

BSG Schiffahrt Roßlau became East German champion on May 27, 1951 in front of 12,000 spectators in Leipzig's Georg-Schwarz-Sportpark with a 10: 9 victory over BSG Mechanik Gera . With six goals, center forward Rudolf Paede was the most successful goalscorer. As BSG Motor, Roßlau was always represented in the field handball league until 1955. There the BSG was initially able to occupy places in the midfield, but had to relegate in 1955 from the top division. Then the BSG Motor played four seasons in the GDR league, until 1959 was relegated to the third-rate district league. A return to the higher handball leagues was no longer achieved.
