Handball GDR Oberliga (men) 1969/70

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The handball GDR league of men determined the champions of the GDR in indoor handball in the 1969/70 season .

Season course

Before the season, the ASK Vorwärts team was transferred from East Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder) . These transfers of sports clubs or individual sports sections served as a means to an end in the socialist states, in which the competitive sports system was organized according to planned economic aspects, similar to the economy, and were increasingly used in the 1950s and 1960s in particular.
The league was played with ten teams that competed against each other in home and away games. The defending champion SC Dynamo Berlin was dethroned by SC Magdeburg , who became champions for the first time. The two newcomers BSG ZAB Dessau and BSG Chemie Premnitz landed in the last two places after the point games. In the newly introduced relegation round they had to deal with the two season winners of the Northern and Southern leagues, whereby Chemistry Premnitz was able to secure relegation.
