Handball GDR Championship 1950

At the handball GDR championship in 1949/50, the title holders in indoor and field handball for men and in field handball for women in the newly founded GDR were determined.

Men's indoor handball final

(January 21st and 22nd, 1950 in the Leipzig exhibition hall)
The GDR master was determined with the five country champions as well as the Berlin master and the respective runner-up. The participants in the semi-finals were finally determined via the intermediate and main rounds. The winners played the final, while the losers played for third place.

Preliminary round

According to an unknown key, five games were determined in which the opponents each came from a different country. While the winners immediately qualified for the main round, the losing teams identified two more participants for the main round.

Men's final field handball

(April 16 to May 14, 1950) The five state champions from Mecklenburg, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia were entitled to participate in the field handball final. On four game days in April and May 1950, the teams competed against each other once, with each team having two home games. The defending champion was BSG Buckau-Wolf Fermersleben.

The decisive game for the field handball championship took place on May 14, 1950 in Rostock in front of 10,000 spectators. At the break, the BSG Leipzig-Eutritzsch were still 3: 4 behind. With the help of the wind, however , the Leipziger were able to turn the game to 8: 5 victory.

Women's final field handball

The teams took part in the final round of the women's field handball championship

In a simple round from April 16 to May 14, 1950, everyone competed against everyone else. After completing the point games, Vorwärts Südwest Leipzig KWU Weimar each had 6: 2 points. In the event of a tie, the regulations provided for a playoff.
