The handball GDR league of men 1983/84 was the top division of the season in indoor handball in the GDR , with it the GDR champions were determined for the 34th time.

Season course

The league season 1983/84 was played as usual with ten teams, began September 22, 1983 and ended with the 20th match day on February 26, 1984. The teams competed against each other in home and return games, with the same number of points at the end of the season the games decided against each other. The SC Magdeburg was last year's title with a eight-point lead over second SC Dynamo Berlin defend superior. The SG Dynamo Halle-Neustadt and the company sports community (BSG) ZAB Dessau started as promoters . Only SG Dynamo managed to stay in the league, while BSG ZAB was relegated after just one season. She was accompanied by the BSG Wismut Aue , which had to leave the league after 23 years of membership in the Oberliga.
