Rüdiger Borchardt (born December 8, 1963 in Wismar ) is a former German handball player .

The 1.98 meter tall backcourt player was one of the best players in the GDR league in the 1980s. He played 153 international matches for the GDR national team .

Borchardt played for SC Empor Rostock . After 1990 he moved to GWD Minden in the 2nd handball Bundesliga and in the 1991/1992 season at VfL Bad Schwartau . Then he moved back to his former club, HC Empor Rostock. A change to TuS Nettelstedt, which had already been reported as perfect in 1995, failed again, as Rostock insisted on compliance with his contract until 1996 and gave him no approval. With the GDR national team he played at the World Cup (WM) 1986 (3rd place), World Cup 1990 (8th place). At the 1988 Olympic Games , he threw 42 goals in six games for the GDR. For the all-German team, he played 15 international matches. With 689 international goals (667 of them for the GDR) he is one of the 15 best German goal throwers (as of 2008).

In 1984 Borchardt was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold with other players from the GDR national team .
