The five best teams of the two league seasons of the previous season had qualified, there were no promoters from the handball substructure. The new champions SC Dynamo Berlin won all 18 games and was six points ahead of local rivals ASK Vorwärts Berlin at the end of the season .

In the last game of SC Dynamo (25:15 at Wismut Aue) the following players scored the goals:

Rainer Zimmermann (8), Böhnisch (7), Werner Senger (6), Rudi Hirsch (3), Horst Jankhöfer (1)

As in the indoor league, the four BSG representatives also landed on the field at the bottom of the table. The BSG locomotive Magdeburg SO had to clear the field in the field league after relegation from the hall. The second relegated team was SG Dynamo Leipzig .
