With the handball GDR Oberliga (men) 1968/69 , the champions of the GDR were determined in indoor handball .

Season course

As in previous years, ten teams took part in the men's handball top league. The defending champion was SC Empor Rostock , which was only third this season. The new champions had to be sought through a playoff between the two teams at the top of the table. The SC Dynamo Berlin prevailed against second table SC Leipzig with 18:13 (6: 5). The two climbers BSG Lokomotive Dresden and the SG Dynamo Halle did not manage to stay in the league.
