Holger Winselmann

Holger Winselmann (born November 11, 1963 in Magdeburg ) is a former German handball player .

The right winger started handball in 1974. In 1983 he was first champion of the GDR with SC Magdeburg . In the same year he made his debut in the national team of the GDR. In 1984, 1985 and 1988 he won three more championship titles, in 1991 he was East Champion with SC Magdeburg. In 1990 he won the GDR Cup.

His greatest success with the GDR national team was the bronze medal at the 1986 World Cup . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , the GDR team took seventh place with him. In 1984 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold with other players of the GDR national team .

After the reunification he played in the all-German national team and alternated on the right wing position with Bernd Roos . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , the team finished tenth. Overall - GDR and all of Germany taken together - the only 1.73 m tall Winselmann played in 234 international matches, in which he scored 483 goals.

From 2005 to November 2, 2009, Winselmann was the coach of the Oranienburger handball club , with whom he was promoted to the Northeast Regionalliga in 2008. Between 2010 and 2012 he coached the Dresden club HC Elbflorenz , which was playing in the major league at the time. He then worked there as a junior coordinator. Under his leadership, HC Elbflorenz rose to the 3rd division in the 2011/12 season. During the 2014/15 season, Winselmann coached the Swabian regional top division club TSV Gersthofen . The main motive for switching to the amateur field was that Winselmann wanted to move in with his wife permanently after 20 years of long-distance relationships. For the 2015/16 season, he moved to the Upper Bavarian regional top division club HSG München West.
