SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch is a former German sports community that was successful in handball and fistball in GDR sports between 1948 and the 1970s .

origin

The origins of the sports community can be traced back to the Leipzig-Eutritzsch gymnastics club, which was founded in 1860 and renamed TSV Leipzig-Eutritzsch in 1919. In its heyday in 1935 it had 1,333 members and offered numerous sports. Even at that time handball and fistball were practiced in the club. After the end of World War II , the TSV was banned like all clubs in the Eastern Zone . Members of the sports clubs TSV and ATSV Vorwärts then founded the Leipzig-Eutritzsch sports community.

Sports community successes

Field handball

Soon after the end of the war, the SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch was a focus in field handball both in Leipzig and in Saxony . In 1948 the handball players became Saxon national champions and qualified for the Eastern Zone Championship, which was held for the first time . There, the north Leipzig made it to the semi-finals, but were there defeated by the later east zone champion Schuhmetro Weißenfels with 7:11. In 1950 the Eutritzscher SG played for the GDR championship in field handball after winning the state championship. This was played in the form of a tournament, and after all four games were won against the other national champions, the SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch was able to adorn itself with the championship title. The player base included Groß (Tor) - Dietze, Ernst, Erxleben, Hennig, Hofmann, Huth, Klimmer, Stein, Stichler and Teubner. In the 1950/51 season, the field championship was held in the newly introduced handball league with 18 teams in two seasons. After the end of the first half of the season, the handball section of SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch was taken over by the company sports association Rotation Nord Leipzig , which was fourth in its season with the Eutritzsch players at the end of the season.

Fistball

In the 1960s, the fistball section took a leading position in GDR gaming. The foundation stone was laid at the end of the 1950s when young women became East German champions in 1958 and 1959. In 1959 13 teams took part in the fistball point game operation. In 1961 the women were GDR champions in indoor fistball, on the field there were two runners-up championships in 1961 and 1962 and a third place in 1963. Until the 1970s, the SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch was represented in the Oberliga, the top division in GDR fistball.
