The SG Rotation Leipzig 1950 is a German sports community from Leipzig . The home of the club, which has around 450 members, is the sports field at the Delitzscher Strasse sports facility in the north of the city. Football, bowling and table tennis are played.

Structural development

The SG Rotation Leipzig was founded on March 15, 1950 as the company sports association (BSG) Sachsenverlag Leipzig . In November 1950, Sachsenverlag Leipzig merged with SG Union Leipzig (formerly SG Leipzig-Thekla) . In addition, the handball department was taken over by the SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch. The Leipziger played as a sports community of publishing and printing analogous to namesake Rotation Babelsberg from then on under the name BSG Rotation Nord Leipzig . In 1951 the BSG was split up into six different company sports associations, one of which then briefly acted as Rotation Nordost Leipzig . Rotation Leipzig did not have a permanent venue at that time, so after moving to the Georg-Schwarz-Sportpark in the south-west, another name was changed to Rotation Südwest Leipzig . In 1958 the merger and name chaos came to an end. After the merger with the BSG Rotation Zentrum Leipzig , the BSG operated as Rotation Leipzig 1950 until 1990 . In the course of the political turnaround of 1990, the BSG changed on August 2, 1990 under its previous name into a sports community according to German association law.

Handball

In the past handball players were the most successful athletes in the sports community. As GDR champions, the men's field handball team came from the SG Leipzig-Eutritzsch to the BSG Rotation Nord. She was qualified for the field league and was fourth in 1951 and 1952. As district champions, the men qualified in the hall for the indoor finals for the GDR championship, but were eliminated in the preliminary round. 1953 the handball section was taken over by BSG Motor Gohlis Nord .

Soccer

In terms of football, Rotation Leipzig rose to the GDR league in the 1953/54 season . Since the second highest division of the GDR was reduced to one season from 1955, the Saxons had no chance and after a year were relegated to the third division II. GDR league . In June 1957, the first Rotation team was connected to BSG Aufbau Südwest Leipzig , but returned to Rotation Südwest at the end of the year . The BSG rotation, which was about to be relegated to the district league, unexpectedly performed in front of a larger crowd in May 1957. After the test opponent Roter Stern Brno failed to compete in a friendly match between local rivals and GDR upper division club SC Rotation Leipzig , the BSG Rotation Leipzig stepped in. In front of 70,000 spectators, the third division was defeated 0: 5 in the central stadium . From the end of the seventies, Rotation played in the “Stadium of Peace” (former Wacker Leipzig venue ). A return to the GDR league succeeded again in 1973, and Rotation was able to prevail over the local rivals of the second representation of Chemie Leipzig . But also in the second attempt the immediate relegation took place together with Chemie Wolfen .

After the fall of the Wall, the SG Rotation then disappeared in the lowlands of Leipzig football. The current division of the first men's team is the national class north. The 2nd team plays in the Leipzig City League. In autumn 2012, the former GDR South League player Manuela Seupel caused a curiosity when she played for the male over 40 team.

Rotation works very successfully in the junior division, plays with its 1st EDCBA youth teams constantly at the regional league - today regional class - partly regional league level.
