Ernst Gerlach

Ernst Gerlach (born March 19, 1947 in Schönebeck ) is a former German handball player . His regular position was back center.

He played in the GDR league for SC Magdeburg and won five championship titles with the club in 1970, 1977, 1980, 1981 and 1982. In addition, with Magdeburg he won the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1978 and 1981 and in 1981 the European Championship for club teams . The Magdeburg playmaker made his debut in the GDR national team at the age of 30 . It was in 1978 third in the World Cup and at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow Olympic champion . He scored a total of 35 goals in 47 international matches.

In 1980 Gerlach was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
