Karlheinz Rost

Karlheinz Rost (born January 14, 1945 in Leipzig ) is a German handball trainer and former handball player .

The 1.89 meter tall and 87 kilogram heavy right-handed player played for various teams and has since switched to football; from 1965 he then played handball at SC Leipzig . In autumn 1972 he was excluded from the team and then went to BSG Motor Eisenach .

He played 100 indoor and 2 field handball internationals for the men's national handball team of the GDR , in which he scored 339 goals (3 of them on the large field) and was runner-up at the indoor world championship in 1970 .

At Motor Eisenach, Karlheinz Rost was initially a player-coach; from 1976 until 1980 he was Karl-Heinz Richter’s assistant coach at SC Leipzig. He applied for permanent exit from the GDR ; At the beginning of 1986 Karlheinz Rost officially left the GDR . He turned down a trainer offer from HSC Bad Neustadt and worked as a sports teacher in Münnerstadt . In the 1995/1996 season, Rost was a trainer at HG Rothenburg . He later coached TSV Münnerstadt until 2003.

Rust is a trained locksmith . From 1970 to 1976 he completed a distance learning teacher training course. He was married three times. His younger brother Peter Rost was also a successful handball player.
