Lutz Loetzsch

Lutz Lötzsch (* 16th June 1959 in Zwickau ) is a former DDR - cyclists .

Athletic career

Lötzsch began in 1970 when Lok Zwickau with the cycling . In 1973 he moved to SC Karl-Marx-Stadt . The first instructor and later trainer here was Roland Krause.

In 1978 the 1.80 m tall, then sports student, started the GDR tour for the first time and finished 18th in the overall ranking; his best stage result was a sixth place. In the same year he won the Mecsek Cup , a stage race in Hungary. In 1979 Lötzsch was third in the Oder tour, 14th in the GDR championship, 16th in the Slovakia tour and took fourth place in the CIBO tour in Romania and 17th in the GDR tour.

In 1980 he won a stage in the Tour of Cuba (57th overall), was 27th in the Tour du Vaucluse , sixth in the GDR tour, won Rund um Langenau , the Erdmannsdorf-Augustusburg mountain time trial and the Mecsek Cup for the second time . In the latter, he achieved a stage win in the mountain time trial. In the same year Lötzsch made his debut at the International Peace Tour . Here he finished 25th in the overall classification and came second in the individual time trial behind Olaf Ludwig .

At the start of the 1981 season, Lötzsch started on the Tour of Cuba. He won a stage and finished 25th overall. In April he took part in the Lower Saxony Tour and finished 17th in the overall ranking. This was followed by his second participation in the Peace Tour. He finished them with a good 20 minutes behind the overall winner Schachid Sagretdinow in 12th place. At the end of June Lötzsch won the GDR tour in front of Thomas Barth and Hans-Joachim Hartnick and achieved a stage win. In the same year he was GDR champion in the mountain time trial and third in the GDR title fights in the team time trial. Lötzsch also won the Mecsek Cup for the third time . At the world championship he was 67th in the individual race.

In 1982 Lötzsch took part in the Peace Run for the third time, finished it in sixth place in the individual classification and won the blue jersey of the team classification with the GDR team (17th of the individual classification). He also won two stages at the Romania Cup. He was also 11th in the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour and 17th in the GDR Tour.

In 1983 he won another stage at the Mescek Cup. He was 4th in the GDR tour, 9th in the Marocko tour , 10th in the Rhineland-Palatinate tour, and 18th in the Cuba tour. In 1984 he was able to win one stage of the GDR tour. He finished the Cuba Tour in 4th place and the Peace Tour in 32nd In 1985 he was able to win a stage of the Wilhelm Tell Tour , which he finished in 4th place. In the GDR tour he was 5th in 1986, followed by a 3rd place overall in the GDR tour in 1987, 36th place and 10th in the tour of Bulgaria . In his last active year in 1988, he won the Ore Mountains Tour and came second again in the Mescek Cup.

Professional

After his cycling career he became a mechanic in the cycling section of his club.
