Andreas Klier
Andreas Klier (born January 15, 1976 in Munich ) is a former German racing cyclist . During his time as an active player, he was considered a classic specialist. After finishing his career he became sporting director . In 2013 he admitted the use of doping .
Career
Klier became a professional with the Nürnberger team in 1996 and switched to the Dutch cycling team TVM-Farm Frites in 1999 . Between 2001 and 2008 he drove for Team Telekom and the successor team Team Columbia , where he achieved his greatest individual successes. In 2003 he won the classic Gent – Wevelgem in the sprint of a three-man leading group. He achieved his best placement in a cycling monument at the Tour of Flanders in 2005, which he finished in second 34 seconds behind solo winner Tom Boonen .
On May 13, 2013, Klier ended his active career with immediate effect and became the sporting director of his Garmin Sharp team , for which he has been the "Capitaine de la route" since 2011.
In August 2013, he admitted taking Epo , growth hormone , cortisone and performing banned blood transfusions between 1999 and 2006. He was stripped of all successes from July 2005, including winning a stage in the Vuelta a España in 2007 and he was banned from being a sports director for six months.
