The Church of St. Mauritius is a Catholic parish church in Ormesheim , the administrative seat of the Mandelbachtal community . The patron saint of the church is Saint Mauritius .

history

The Church of St. Mauritius was built from 1931 to 1932 under Dean Georg Stabel according to plans by the architect Albert Boßlet and replaced a previous building from the 14th century. On December 18, 1932, the Speyer bishop Ludwig Sebastian inaugurated the church. The church building suffered serious damage several times during the Second World War . The basement of the church served as a shelter for the people of Ormesheim.

In the years 1945–1948, 1981 and 2000–2001 restoration measures took place . During the restoration in 1981, the choir was rebuilt and redesigned.

In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

Architecture and equipment

The church building was built in the neo-Romanesque style. White-gray limestone was used as the building material . The roof was with natural colored tiles covered.

Inside the church, the central nave is rhythmically flanked by the arches of the side aisles. The main nave has a flat, inwardly offset wooden ceiling . All windows and the pulpit were donated by Ormesheim citizens, whose names can still be seen on the windows today.

In the chancel which is separated from the nave by a large sheet, one finds a canteen of Palatine sandstone and a tabernacle from brass . On the back wall of the room there was originally a mural by the Munich painter Paul Thalheimer , which depicted a scene from the life of St. Mauritius. During the renovation and redesign work in the chancel in 1981, the picture was covered. The canteen of the old altar is in a chapel next to the altar . The sculptor Max Faller was responsible for the redesign of the altar area in 1981 , from whom the tabernacle, candlesticks and lecture cross come. The Way of the Cross in the south aisle is also by Max Faller .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1938 by the organ builder Paul Sattel ( Speyer ). The instrument, which is set up on a gallery and has a free-standing console , has 28 registers spread over 2 manuals and pedal . The wind chests are electric slide chests.
