Ponsheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ponsheim is a submerged place in the area of the municipality of Mandelbachtal in the southern Saarpfalz district in Saarland . The Franks already settled in the area of today's Ponsheimer Hof in the 7th century at the waterfront, but flood-safe place. This was proven when a sax and a spathe were found while plowing near the Ponsheimer Hof . An archaeological excavation in 1962 led to the discovery of seven Merovingian tombs.

The skeletal remains of four men, two women and a child were found 400 m north of the Ponsheimer Hof on the slope that sloped down towards the Buschbach stream, seven grave pits equipped with limestone slabs. The seven people, who probably belonged to a court community, were buried between 600 and 640 AD.

In 1291 the place Ponsheim, about which little is known, was first mentioned in a document. In a record that documented the division of Eisengut (allodial goods) on Palm Sunday, April 15, 1291, the name of the place was mentioned: "ultra ripam versus villam de Pontsemh ...", "on the bank against the village of Ponsheim ..." ".

The historic hamlet “Ponsheimer Hof” is mentioned for the first time after the Thirty Years War (1618–1648), when the farm “Pfundtsheim”, which previously belonged to the Gräfinthal monastery, was banned from Ormesheim . So it fell to the county of the "von der Leyen" to Blieskastel, while the nearby Eschringen belonged to the Nassau county of Saarbrücken. Two related families ran the farm until the French Revolution (1789).

While in the 18th century predominantly "fruit was grown" on the 180 acres of land, the focus was on milk production towards the end of the farm. The farm changed hands frequently in the 19th century. The more than 150 year old horse chestnut in front of the farm is now a protected natural monument.

The border between the places Ormesheim with the Ponsheimer Hof and Eschringen was mostly also a national border over the centuries. The numerous preserved historical boundary stones between the two places are stone witnesses of this time. They can be viewed along the interesting "Eschringer Grenzsteinlehrpfades", which begins above the Graefinthaler Weg.

Since 1971 the Ponsheimer Hof with its 47 hectares of meadows and pastures has been an Icelandic horse breeding business with riding and riding holidays. Since 1974 the Ponsheimer Hof belongs as part of the Ormesheim municipality to the Mandelbachtal municipality in the Saarpfalz district, and the nearby Eschringen as a district to the state capital and thus to the Saarbrücken city association.
