Lauterschwan is a district of the municipality of Erlenbach near Dahn in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Südwestpfalz .

location

The place itself is located about three kilometers east of the core community in the eastern Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the northern part of the Vosges are called, in its sub-area Dahner Felsenland . Not far from the western edge of the settlement, the Portzbach runs in a north-south direction , which takes the Hirschbach from the left to the north of the settlement area . The Kuhnenkopf extends south-west of Lauterschwan . One kilometer south-east - for the most part already within the Birkenhördt district - is the Hohe Kopf , which measures 430.8 meters in total .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1313 as "Swandin". In 1348 a document mentions “Luderswanden”. In 1576 the place was called "Luterschwan", from which the current place name developed. As early as 1800 Lauterschwan formed a community with the neighboring Erlenbach. In 1928 the place had 68 inhabitants who lived in 17 residential buildings.

The St. Michael Chapel, which is used simultaneously and was completed in 1966, is located on site. Before that, the Chapel of St. Maria, built in 1753, was located in Lauterschwan and was destroyed in 1944 in the middle of World War II. The Catholics initially belonged to the Niederschlettenbach parish and later to the Birkenhördt parish. Due to an administrative reform of the Speyer diocese , the latter has belonged to the parish of Bad Bergzabern since 2016. The Protestants are part of the parish of Vorderweidenthal .

Culture

The only cultural monument on site is a cross from 1589, which is in the Catholic chapel. The Lauterschwaner Rappenfels located in the catchment area of ​​the village is part of the climbing area of ​​the Palatinate Forest .

Federal highway 427 also runs through the middle of Lauterschwan . On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, local transport is carried out with call taxis due to the low demand. The place is connected to the local transport network via bus line 545, which connects it with Bad Bergzabern, Birkenhördt Erlenbach bei Dahn , Busenberg , Schindhard and Dahn . The closest regularly served train stops are Wissembourg and Bad Bergzabern .

Until 1935 there was a school of its own in the village, after which the one in the nearby Erlenbacher core town was attended.
