Drei Buchen is a mountain pass in the Middle Palatinate Forest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). It is located in the district of Ramberg in 403  m above sea level. NHN .

geography

The pass enables the transition from west to east from the Ramberger valley , in which the Dernbach flows, to the valley of the Modenbach . Drei Buchen is part of the watershed between the catchment areas of two left tributaries of the Rhine , the Queich and the Speyerbach . The highest mountain in the vicinity of Drei Buchen is the 637  m high Roßberg , 1 km south-east, and the third highest peak in the Palatinate Forest.

The state road  506 (Ramberg– Weyher ) leads over the top of the pass . Following the pass road to the west, Ramberg is reached after 2 km, to the east Weyher after 10 km.

Near the top of the pass are the Ramberger Waldhaus Drei Buchen , which is looked after by the Ramberg local group of the Palatinate Forest Association , but is leased to an independent restaurateur, and a forest car park.

The Ramberger Waldhaus Drei Buchen has a similar name to the Pfälzer Waldhaus Drei Buchen near the hamlet of Kettrichhof in the Southwest Palatinate district , which is, however, a good 30 km as the crow flies to the southwest and near which there is also a Drei Buchen hiking car park . The knight  stone 213 ( ) erected northwest of Dahn between Bichtenberg and Lehmberg contributes to confusion with its undifferentiated inscription " Three beeches ".

Attractions

On the top of the pass near the Ramberger Waldhaus Drei Buchen there is the Knight's Stone 234, which is also marked with the inscription "Drei Buchen" without any additional information.

Several medieval castles have survived as ruins on the surrounding mountains . The closest is Meistersel Castle , also known as Modeneck Castle or Modenbacher Schloss , just under 1 km to the north. The remains of Neuscharfeneck Castle and the Ramburg can be reached within 2 km .
