The Viessmann Werke are a family business founded in 1917 with headquarters in Allendorf (Eder) in the western part of North Hesse , the heating technology products and industrial and cooling systems developed and manufactured. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is Martin Viessmann , who took over management from his father Hans Vießmann at the turn of the year 1991/92 . Maximilian Viessmann and Joachim Janssen have been responsible for operational business since January 2018.

With 23 production companies in 12 countries, sales companies and agencies in 74 countries as well as 120 sales offices worldwide, Viessmann has an international focus. 55 percent of sales come from abroad. The product range includes heat generators with an output of 1 kW to 120 MW. These include floor-standing and wall-mounted heating boilers for oil and gas in low-temperature and condensing technology , micro- CHP systems with PEM fuel cells or Stirling engines and block-type thermal power stations as well as regenerative energy systems such as heat pumps, solar systems and boilers for renewable raw materials. The Viessmann Group includes Viessmann Holzfeuerungsanlagen Ges.mbH (formerly Mawera), Viessmann Holzheiztechnik GmbH (formerly Köb), the heat pump manufacturer KWT, and the company Viessmann Kraft-Wärme-Kopplung GmbH (formerly ESS Energie Systeme & Service GmbH) as a producer of combined heat and power plants , HKB Ketelbouw as a specialist for large hot water and steam boilers and Schmack as a market leader in the biogas sector. In July 2015, Viessmann took over 100 percent of the Swiss company Hexis AG, a global leader in the field of SOFC fuel cell technology. The group also includes the French medium-sized boiler manufacturers Stein Energie and Sodiet (Viessmann Industrie France), Viessmann Eis-Energiespeicher GmbH and the electronics and home automation specialist Viessmann Hausautomation GmbH (formerly msr solutions).

In 2012, the Viessmann Group took over 100 percent of the shares in Viessmann Kältetechnik AG in Hof . The company is one of the most important manufacturers of temperature-controlled rooms for trade and industry. In addition, the Finnish Norpe Group, the leading Scandinavian manufacturer of commercial refrigerated furniture, lamellar products and refrigeration units for the food retail sector, was taken over in 2013.

In September 2016 Viessmann launched an information and advice portal that is aimed specifically at end users such as new builders and modernizers. Viessmann has also been running the start-up company builder Wattx in Berlin since 2016 .

On the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary, a new research and development center was inaugurated at the headquarters in Allendorf in 2017. With a volume of 50 million euros, the so-called technical center represents the largest single investment in the company's history.

Since January 2018, the operational business of the Viessmann Group has been led by two CEOs. Maximilian Viessmann has taken on responsibility for the Heating Systems Division and new digital business, while Joachim Janssen is concentrating on the Industrial Systems and Cooling Systems Divisions.

Also in 2018, the company built a solar park in addition to its headquarters in Allendorf to cover up to 7 percent of the company's own electricity requirements. The plant has an output of 2 MW and was built without government funding. Instead, the project is financed through self-consumption of electrical energy.

Since the summer of 2011, Viessmann, together with the Edertal School in Frankenberg and the Technical University of Central Hesse, has been offering upper school students an insight into the engineering profession with the topics of robotics and IT in the Young Engineer Academy project . Various additional excursions are also offered.

Sponsorship

Viessmann appears as a sponsor in various winter sports . In addition, various German athletes from the fields of biathlon , Nordic combined , luge , cross-country skiing and ski jumping are supported. Viessmann's best-known winter sports athletes include Andrea Henkel , Sven Fischer (both biathlon), Björn Kircheisen (Nordic combined), Felix Loch , Georg Hackl (both luge), Axel Teichmann , Jochen Behle , Tobias Angerer (all cross-country skiing) and Michael Uhrmann (ski jumping).
