Energy Globe Award

The Energy Globe Award is an environmental award from the Energy Globe Foundation . Projects with a focus on energy efficiency , resource conservation and the use of renewable energies are awarded.

This "World Prize for Sustainability " is awarded in the categories earth, fire (energy), water, air and youth. The Sustainable Plastics category was added in 2016. The Energy Globe was launched in 2000 through an initiative in Austria. It is awarded annually as a regional, national and international award. Both small and large projects can be submitted.

The aim of the Energy Globe Award is to create awareness for the solution of environmental problems and to show that everyone can make a positive contribution to them. The Energy Globe winning projects, which are presented worldwide on the website and in the Energy Globe database, serve as examples. The 1st prize of the international award is endowed with 10,000 euros, which is divided into the 6 categories.

The Energy Globe winning projects will be honored at festive events and presented worldwide in the media and on television. The international awards were held in 2007 and 2008 in the plenary hall of the European Parliament in Brussels. In 2009 the Energy Globe Gala took place in Prague as the kick-off event for the EU Environment Ministers' Meeting. 2010 Energy Globe opened in cooperation with UNEP the World Environment Day in Rwanda. The international Energy Globe Award 2017 took place in the President's Palace in Tehran, Iran.

Over 2,000 projects are now submitted annually. A total of around 16,000 projects from 182 countries have been submitted to the Energy Globe so far.

The Chair of the Energy Globe Jury is the Indian Minister Maneka Gandhi .

International personalities such as Kofi Annan , Mikhail Gorbachev , the presidents of the EU Parliament and the EU Commission and stars such as Martin Sheen , Peter Falk , Aamir Khan , Alanis Morissette , Dionne Warwick , Zucchero and Robin Gibb are at the service of Energy Globe .

The Energy Globe Award was founded in 1999 by the energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann, who launched the energy saving trade fair in 1985 and subsequently launched energy advice centers across Europe.

The first Energy Globe Award took place in Linz in 2000.

In 2003, the Energy Globe Award was presented in Linz as part of a large 2-hour television gala.

In 2005 the Energy Globe Award, the flagship at the EXPO in Japan, was attended by around 90 nations.

In 2006 the Energy Globe Award was presented in Vancouver, Canada and caused a sensation here as well, moderated by the future Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In 2007 and 2008 the award was held in the plenary hall of the European Parliament in Brussels and broadcast worldwide on the 3sat television channel. Laudators were world personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Manuel Barosso, Kofi Annan, to name just a few.

In 2009 the Energy Globe Award took place as part of the meeting of European environment ministers in Prague under the EU presidency. 110 nations took part.

In 2010 the path led to Kigali in Rwanda, where the Energy Globe Award opened the UN Environment Day. The ceremony was televised worldwide in over 150 nations.

In 2011 the Energy Globe Award was presented in Austria, in the city of Salzburg. At the same time, the national awards began to be expanded and the National Energy Globe Awards were increasingly held on site.

In 2012 the Energy Globe World Award took place in cooperation with the Austrian Association for Public and Social Economy (VÖWG) as part of the CIRIEC Congress in Vienna, Austria.

In 2013, the Energy Globe Award was presented in Austria in the city of Salzburg as part of a television event that was broadcast live worldwide by international TV stations.

In 2014/2015 the Energy Globe World Award took place in the Milad Tower in Tehran, Iran, and the gala was broadcast worldwide on television.

In 2016, the World Award was held as part of the World Climate Conference in Marrakech, Morocco. Miss Earth Austria Kimberly Budinsky moderated the event.

In 2017 the Energy Globe World Award took place in the President's Palace in Tehran, Iran. Around 70 nations took part.

The sponsor of this 100% independent world award is the non-profit Energy Globe Foundation. The sole shareholder is Wolfgang Neumann. The activities are financed by partners and, on a small scale, by subsidies. The annual partner is UNESCO.
