The Design Center Baden-Württemberg (until the beginning of 2014: Design Center Stuttgart ) is a state institution that supports the exchange between industry and the creative economy.

The Design Center is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the state of Baden-Württemberg and at the same time the only state design center in the Federal Republic . The center is institutionally affiliated to the Stuttgart Regional Council.

Its task is the economic development of the state by promoting the "dialogue between industry and design industry".

It is located in Stuttgart-Mitte and provides information about current design trends in changing exhibitions.

Seminars, workshops, congresses, consultations and the design library complete the offer at the Haus der Wirtschaft Baden-Württemberg .

International Design Award Baden-Württemberg

The Design Center announces the "International Design Award Baden-Württemberg" every year. The state prize is awarded to manufacturers and designers of pioneering, professional and outstanding projects and design achievements. The awards go as “Focus in Gold”, “Focus in Silver” and “Focus Special Mention”. The focus topics change annually. The competition looks back on a long tradition and enjoys an international reputation due to its high demands on the presenters.

history

The thematic forerunner was the museum “model collection” of awarded commercial products set up by Ferdinand von Steinbeis in 1850 .

The Design Center was founded in 1962 under the name "LGA-Zentrum Form" as an institution of the State Trade Office. In 1969 the name was changed to "Design Center Stuttgart". With the dissolution of the state trade office, the Design Center became an institution of the Stuttgart regional council. In 2014 the Design Center Stuttgart was renamed the Design Center Baden-Württemberg.
