Ersel Altıparmak (born January 1, 1942 in Niğde , † March 21, 2014 in Bursa ) was a Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Bursaspor , he is very strongly associated with this club. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. Together with his team-mate and strike partner Mesut Şen , he was formative for the first decade of the club's history. So he acted part of his time for Bursaspor as team captain.
Player career
The beginnings of Altıparmak's football career are hardly documented. So he began to play from the summer of 1964 for the only a year earlier founded club Bursaspor and took part with this club in the second-highest Turkish league, which was then called Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi , a year ago . At this club he immediately asserted himself as a regular player. With his two strike partners Mustafa Güvenç and Mesut Şen , he formed a successful storm trio, with Altıparmak drawing attention to himself as the club's most successful goalscorer with 12 goals this season. Over the entire course of the second division season 1964/65 Altıparmak's team delivered a head-to-head race for the 2nd Turkish second division championship with the traditional Istanbul club Vefa SK . At the end of the season the championship was awarded with equal points, but the worse goal difference to Vefa. In the following season Altıparmak played again with his team for a long time for the second division championship, this time the league was finished in 3rd place in the table and again missed the hoped for promotion to the 1st league . Altıparmak scored ten goals this season and was again one of the key performers of his team. Finally, in the second division season 1966/67, the hoped-for championship and thus promotion to the 1st league succeeded. Under the direction of head coach Sabri Kiraz , the team prevailed with a two-point lead against Samsunspor . Altıparmak was significantly involved in this success with 15 goals this season and was also one of the most successful goalscorers in the league by the number of goals.
In the first first division season in the club's history, Altıparmak's team caused a surprise and ended the league as a newcomer in sixth place in the table. Altıparmak controlled six goals this season to this success and formed the team's storm trio with his new strike partner Haluk Erdemoğlu and Mesut Şen. In the next season, the season 1968/69 , the previous year's performance was exceeded. So the league ended in 5th place in the table and the semi-finals of the Turkish Football Cup were reached. Altıparmak contributed significantly to both successes. With eight league goals and five cup hits, he was by far the most successful goalscorer of his team in both competitions. Because of this performance, he was appointed to the squad of the Turkish national team in the summer of 1969 .
After this season, Altıparmak continued to play as a regular player, but remained in the first two seasons behind his usual goal yield. Only in the 1971/72 season was with seven league goals together with his teammate Haluk Erdemoğlu the most successful goalscorer of his team. In all three seasons his team achieved positions seven to five in the table. In the 1970/71 season Altıparmak reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup with his team for the first time in the club's history. In two cup final games, the team was defeated by arch-rivals Eskişehirspor , the team from the neighboring province of Eskişehir . In the season he was able to win the Prime Minister's Cup with his team .
In the summer of 1972 he left Bursaspor after eight years and moved to the second division Kayserispor . With this team he achieved the championship of the second division season 1972/73 and rose to the 1st Lig. After this promotion he played one season in this league for Kayserispor and ended his active career in the summer of 1974.
National team
After Altıparmak had delivered a convincing performance in the 1968/69 season, he was nominated by the Turkish coach Abdulah Gegić in the squad of the Turkish national team . With this he took part in the RCD Cup in 1965 and finished second with his team behind Iran . As part of this tournament, he made his international debut against the Pakistani national team . After this tournament he was no longer considered for the national team.
Coaching career
After the end of his playing career Altıparmak switched to coaching. For the 1987/88 season he took over the reserve team Bursaspors , which was then called Bursaspor P2 team. He led this team to the championship of the third division season 1987/88 and thus to promotion to the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi . In the coming season he took over the first team Bursaspor for a game on an interim basis after head coach Ahmet Suat Özyazıcı had to leave the club after a 6-0 home defeat against Trabzonspor in the previous matchday . He handed over his office to the new head coach Yılmaz Gökdel after a matchday and worked for Bursaspor in various coaching positions. In the 1990s he was head coach of several clubs in the lower Turkish leagues. He then worked almost exclusively as a junior coach for Bursaspor or for its second team Bursa Merinosspor .
death
On March 21, 2014, Ersel Altıparmak died after a heart attack . On March 22, 2014, he was buried in his adopted city of Bursa after the midday prayer in the Bursa Ulu Mosque in the Hamitler Cemetery.
