Coaching career

After retiring as a player, Özdilek did a 1-year internship with Sir Alex Ferguson and Bobby Robson in England . After two short periods at Malatyaspor and Sarıyer SK , Fatih Terim brought him to the Turkish national football team as an assistant coach. He gave up his position as assistant coach on November 24, 2005. The reason for this was that zdilek was involved in the riots at the international soccer match between Turkey and Switzerland in 2005 . After video evidence that he tripped a Swiss player, which triggered the commotion that followed, he was suspended from FIFA for a year as a coach.

In November 2008 he became the head coach of Antalyaspor . Özdilek worked at Antalyaspor until the end of the 2012/13 season and resigned on May 28, 2013.

In October 2013, he took over the first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara as Metin Diyadin's successor in last place in the table and led them out of the relegation region of the table. Towards the end of the season, the team played for a place in the European Cup and finally finished the league in 9th place in the table. At the end of the season, club president İlhan Cavcav tried to keep Özdilek. However, both sides could not agree on the squad planning for the coming season. Özdilek was not satisfied with Cavcav's suggestions and decided against continuing.

For the 2014/15 season he was introduced as the new head coach at the first division club Çaykur Rizespor . On December 8, 2014, Özdilek was released from Çaykur Rizespor. The team finished 16th in the table after the 12th matchday.

A month after his release in Rize, Özdilek became head coach at Kayseri Erciyesspor . Özdilek did not stay long in Kayseri either. On March 24, 2015, he resigned from his post as head coach.

At the beginning of September 2015 he took over Gençlerbirliği Ankara for the second time in his coaching career. He was released in mid-December.

After stays at Konyaspor and Erzurumspor , Özdilek was introduced to Denizlispor in October 2019 as the successor to Yücel İldiz . In February 2020, after 15 weeks in office, an agreement was reached to terminate the contract after Özdilek lost to bottom of the table Kayserispor and failed to win seven game days in a row.
