İlhan Palut (born November 12, 1976 in Reyhanlı ) is a Turkish soccer coach and former soccer player .

Player career

Palut began his career at Hatayspor in the 1996/97 season . The midfielder played for Hatayspor until February 2004 and then moved to the 2nd division to Adana Demirspor . At the end of the 2003/04 season, Palut and his teammates were relegated to the 3rd division. After two years, the midfielder returned to Hatayspor.

For the 2007/08 season, İlhan Palut moved to Çorumspor on loan . Palut ended his active career after the 2008/09 season.

Coaching career

In the summer of 2011, Palut began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Kırıkhanspor . A year later, the former midfielder moved to Hatayspor in the youth team and was appointed assistant coach a few months later.

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Palut moved to Ümraniyespor , where he was Ahmet Taşyürek's assistant coach . After a year at Ümraniyespor, Palut became Sports Director of Hatayspor. After head coach Fatih Kavlak was dismissed in February 2017, İlhan Palut became Hatayspor's head coach. Hatayspor finished the regular playing time in 4th place and was eligible for the play-offs. In the quarter-finals of the play-offs, the Palut team was eliminated against Kastamonuspor .

One season later, Hatayspor finished the season in 1st place and went straight to the 2nd division. In the 2018/19 season of the Turkish Football Cup, Hatayspor made it to the quarter-finals and had to admit defeat to Galatasaray Istanbul . In the 2nd division Hatayspor was third and qualified for the play-offs. In the play-off final, Palut's team lost on penalties against Gaziantep FK and missed promotion to the Süper Lig .

In the first six weeks of the 2019/20 season, Hatayspor won three of its six league games and was eliminated in the 3rd main round against Siirt İl Özel İdarespor . On October 1, 2019, Hatayspor released İlhan Palut. At the beginning of November 2019, Palut became the head coach of Göztepe Izmir .
