founding

The association was founded in 1988 under the Sankospor Kulübü or in short Sankospor as the operating team of the company Sanko Holding by the business owner Sani Konukoğlu in his hometown Gaziantep . In the summer of 1993, the soccer team managed to move up to the Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi , the then third highest soccer league in Turkish professional soccer.

Promotion to the TFF 1st Lig and name change to "Gaziantep BB"

At the end of the third division season 1996/97 Sankospor succeeded in the championship and thus the first promotion to the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi , the then second highest Turkish division. Before the second second division season, the competition rights of Sankospors were handed over to the football department of Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor , the company sports club of the city administration of Gazianteps, which is why the club took part in the competition from then on under this name.

Systemic relegation to the TFF 2nd Lig

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams, which only occupied a middle place in the table in the second division season 2000/01 , were assigned to the newly created third-highest Turkish division, the 2. Lig, for the coming season. Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor, which had finished the league in 3rd place in the table, had to relegate to the 2nd Lig due to the system.

Modern times

When Mehmet Erol Maraş was elected third president in the club's history on June 22, 2004 , he managed to move up to the second division with the team in 11 months . In the third division season 2004/05 , the team under the leadership of Ali Güneş reached the third division championship and thus the return to the TFF 1. Lig.

Gaziantep BB played in the second division season 2010/11 under the direction of head coach Erol Azgın for the championship until the last match day and at the end of the season occupied third place in the table with a point difference to first and second placed Mersin İdman Yurdu and Samsunspor . Instead, the team qualified for the playoffs of the league, in which the third and final climber was determined by the knockout system . Here they reached the final, but they lost 0: 1 in this Orduspor and thus missed the last chance for promotion. In the same season, the team reached the quarter-finals of the Turkish Football Cup as the only non-first division team and failed here at the traditional club Beşiktaş Istanbul .

On June 15, 2017, the club name was changed to Gazişehir Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü .

The club has been playing under the name Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü since the 2019/20 season.
