Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor Kulübü , Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor or as the acronym BB Erzurumspor is a Turkish football club from the city of Erzurum and, according to the club, founded in 2005. It was converted into a company sports club of the Erzurum city administration in 2005 and was called Erzurum Büyükşehir Belediyespor for about a decade . In the summer of 2014 the association was renamed in its current form in order to evoke an association with the historical association Erzurumspor . In addition to the most famous football division, the club also operates other sports such as kayaking and ice hockey .
history
founding
The founding history of BB Erzurumspor is opaque and the association's own presentation has changed in recent years. While the club's logo was still listed as 2010 as the founding year until the summer of 2013, the club changed its logo and thus the founding year in 2005. Along with these changes, the club adapted its founding to the new version on its official homepage. According to the latest interpretation, the first establishment dates back to 1967 with the name Erzurum Gençler Birliği Gençlik Spor kulübü . Subsequently, the club was renamed Erzurum 3 Temmuz Belde Spor Gençlik Kulübü on an unspecified date . With this name the club played in the regional amateur leagues until the year.
Change of name to Erzurum BB and entry into professional football
According to the club, the Erzurum 3 Temmuz Belde SGK was bought up by the Erzurum city council in 2005 and renamed as a company sports club in Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor ( Erzurum BB for short ). As the old club logo of Erzurum BB also suggests, the club gave the year 2010 as the date of this club takeover for a long time. As Erzurumspor, the most famous club in the city, filed for bankruptcy in the summer of 2010 and was dissolved, Erzurum BB immediately tried to rename itself to Erzurumspor and succeed it. Although the Turkish Football Association rejected this name change, Erzurum BB called itself Erzurumspor on its own website, was also called that by the regional press and also adopted the club colors from Erzurumspor.
In the 2010/11 season, the club took part in the Boelgesel Amatoer Ligi , the highest Turkish amateur league. In this season Erzurum BB finished Group 1 as champions and rose to the TFF 3rd Lig for the first time in its club history . This rise also meant the club's first participation in Turkish professional football.
Change of name to BB Erzurumspor
In the summer of 2014 the club changed its name again. This time the change to the name Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor ( BB Erzurumspor for short ) was chosen in order to evoke an association with the historical Erzurumspor association . After the limitation of the naming rights of Erzurumspor, the association will take over this name.
Promotion to the TFF 1st Lig
On the penultimate matchday of the 2015/16 season, the club secured the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig prematurely and thus the first promotion in the club's history to the TFF 2nd Lig . Even after this promotion, the club played under the master coach Ahmet Yıldırım from the start of the season for direct promotion to the TFF 1st Lig and also spent the winter as winter champions . After the club had experienced two slumps in the first half of the season and threatened to gamble away the promotion, the cooperation with Yıldırım was ended and Kemal Kılıç, a multiple master coach of the TFF 2. Lig, was hired. Under this coach, the team missed direct promotion, but secured qualification for the play-off phase by reaching 3rd place in the table. In the play-offs, in which the third and last promoted 2nd Lig was decided by knockout system , the team prevailed 1-0 in the final against local rivals Gümüşhanespor and secured their first participation in the TFF 1st Lig.
