Osman Özköylü (born August 26, 1971 in Aydın ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach.
Player career
society
Özköylü started playing professional football in the youth of Aydın Yıldızspor . In 1990 he moved to Aydınspor's youth . After a year he got a professional contract here and found a place in the regular formation in no time.
After he was active here for two seasons, he moved to the traditional Turkish club Trabzonspor . Here he quickly established himself as a regular player and was active for this club for ten years. In the 1994/95 season he won the Turkish Football Cup , the Turkish Supercup and the runner-up in the Süper Lig with his club . The next two seasons they were also runner-up.
In the summer of 2002 he moved to Samsunspor and was active here for two seasons.
He then played in turn at Kayserispor , Kocaelispor , Etimesgut Şekerspor and Uşakspor . At the end of the 2006/07 season he ended his playing career at Uşakspor.
National team
Osman Özköylü played five times for the Turkish U-21s in 1992 and scored two goals.
On June 4, 1995, he made his debut for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Canadian national team in Toronto. With the Turkish national team he took part in the European Football Championship in 2000 and made it to the quarter-finals. Özköylü was used once during the tournament.
Coaching career
Following his playing career, he decided to start a coaching career. His first activity was the head coach of his former club Etimesgut Şekerspor in the summer of 2007 . He then trained Erzurumspor and İskenderun Demir Çelikspor .
In the summer of 2010 he took over the third division side Elazığspor and rose with this club at the end of the season as champions of the TFF 2nd Lig in the TFF 1st Lig . After some bad results in the TFF 1st Lig, he resigned from his position on October 10, 2011 after mutual agreement with the club's management.
On October 18, 2011, he took over from the resigned Güvenç Kurtar as coach of the second division team Denizlispor . Here he managed to secure relegation with the strongly relegation-threatened club and missed the playoffs of the TFF 1st Lig . At the end of the season he announced that he no longer wanted to work for Denizlispor.
Shortly thereafter, his move to league rivals Kayseri Erciyesspor was announced. With this club he quickly took the lead in the 2012/13 second division season and defended it on most match days. On the 32nd matchday, Özköylü secured with Erciyesspor by a seven point difference to third-placed 1461 Trabzon the direct promotion to the Süper Lig , but gave up the championship lead to Çaykur Rizespor . Already on the next day of play they took the lead again and finished the season as champions of the TFF 1st Lig . A few days after this success, Özköylü was unable to agree on a contract extension due to different ideas with the club's management, which means that he left the club when his contract expired in summer 2013.
For the 2013/14 season Özköylü took over the second division team Ankaraspor . On December 23, 2014 the meanwhile renamed club Osmanlıspor announced the dismissal of Özköylü as head coach.
In February 2015 he took over the Southeast Anatolian representative Şanlıurfaspor . At the end of June 2015, he separated from the association by mutual agreement.
For the 2015/16 season he was introduced as head coach at the second division side Adana Demirspor . Özköylü's time at Demirspor turned out to be changeable. After successful phases in which the team played for the championship, they repeatedly fell behind due to failures. As a result of this, Özköylü resigned from his post in December 2015 and only had to be retuned by his team a little later to continue his work. After the team moved away from the top of the table again in March 2016, Özköylü announced his final resignation.
For the 2016/17 season he was signed by the first division relegated Sivasspor . After an unexpectedly bad start to the season, Özköylü agreed with the club management on a contract termination after the 5th match day. In October 2016 he took over the league rival Samsunspor and trained him until the end of the season. For the 2017/18 season he was hired as the new head coach at the second division side Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor , but was only able to stay there for three months.
After another short stay at Adanaspor , Özköylü was introduced as Denizlispor's new head coach in June 2018 . Özköylü criticized the club's management in various interviews, whereupon the contract was terminated prematurely in October 2018.
For the 2018/19 season, Özköylü took over the second division team Denizlispor and worked here for about two months. He was then hired for the second time in his career at Osmanlıspor FK as head coach and trained this until August 2019. In mid-September 2019, he coached Boluspor .
