Yuri Wladimirowitsch Lodygin ( Russian Ю́рий Влади́мирович Лодыгин , Greek Γιούρι Λοντίγκιν ; born May 26, 1990 in Vladimir , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian - Greek football player . He plays in the position of the goalkeeper . Most recently he played for Gaziantep FK in Turkey , where his contract was terminated by mutual agreement in January 2020.

Career

Early years

Yuri Lodygin was born in Vladimir, the son of a Russian and an ethnic Greek . When Juri was ten years old, he emigrated to Greece with his parents and brother . He played in Xanthi in the local youth selection. There, the Skoda Xanthi club became aware of him, for whom he played three seasons in the youth team.

On June 17, 2009 Lodygin signed his professional contract with Skoda Xanthi.

In the 2010/11 season he was loaned to the Greek second division club Eordaikos , for which he completed 25 league games and two cup games.

In the following season Lodygin made his debut for Skoda Xanthi and in the 2012/13 season he was appointed goalkeeper of this team.

On June 7, 2013 it was announced that Yuri Lodygin was moving to the Russian top club Zenit St. Petersburg for a transfer fee of 800,000 euros . For this team Lodygin made his debut on July 17, 2013 in the league game against Kuban Krasnodar , as the goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeyev was injured. His debut was well received by football fans in Saint Petersburg, so that he was voted Zenit's best player of the month for August 2013 in an internet poll.

In order not to be considered a foreigner in Russia, Lodygin took on Russian citizenship in addition to Greek citizenship in the same year. As a native Soviet citizen, he was able to go through a simplified naturalization procedure.

In the summer of 2019 he moved to the Turkish first division newcomer Gaziantep FK .

National team

In 2010, Lodygin was inducted into the Greek U-21 national football team and played three games. On May 22, 2013 he was appointed to the Greek national football team, but was not used there.

Since he received Russian citizenship in 2013 and had not played a game for the Greek national team, he remained eligible to play for the Russian national soccer team, which he ultimately chose. In September 2013, Lodygin was added to the expanded Russian national team. On November 19, 2013, he made his debut for the Russian team in the friendly against South Korea .

In May 2014 Lodygin was nominated as the second goalkeeper behind Igor Akinfejew for the Russian squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil . He was not used at this tournament.

He was also included in the Russian squad as a substitute goalkeeper at the European Football Championship in France in 2016 and was not used again.

Lodygin has been married since 2014 and has a daughter named Anastasia (* 2013). He lives with his wife and daughter alternately in Xanthi and in Saint Petersburg .
