In 2009, he came into the squad the second team in the Segunda División B . After relegation in 2010, he joined the league rivals FC Badalona . There he was hardly used when the club narrowly missed promotion to the Segunda División in second place . In the summer of 2011 he returned to Romania, where first division side Pandurii Târgu Jiu signed him. There he developed into a regular and a national player.
On January 31, 2013, Maxim moved to VfB Stuttgart . In the 2013 cup final he lost with VfB against FC Bayern Munich. He played regularly in the Bundesliga, often as a substitute. At the end of the 2015/16 season , Maxim was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with VfB and was promoted again as the second division champion in the following season. His contract with VfB Stuttgart ran until the end of June 2019.
For the 2017/18 season he joined the Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 for four years . In his first two seasons he was mostly a substitute for the Mainz team; In the first half of the 2019/20 season , he only played five Bundesliga games. At the end of January 2020 he was awarded to the Turkish first division club Gaziantep FK until the end of the season in order to get more time there and to continue to recommend himself for the Romanian national team. By the end of the season, the Romanian completed all of the remaining 15 league games from the start and was deployed variably in midfield; he scored seven goals. He finished eighth with the promoted team and then returned to Mainz. There, however, no more plans were made with him and his contract, which ran for one year, was terminated by mutual agreement in mid-August 2020. One day after the contract was terminated, the Romanian signed a two-year contract with his previous loan club, Gaziantep.
