Andrei Gabriel Torje (born November 22, 1989 in Timișoara , Timiș County ) is a Romanian football player .

Career

Torje started his career in 2005 at CFR Timișoara . In 2006 he moved to local rivals FC Timișoara . Already in his first season he came to appearances in the highest Romanian league . In the end, the seventh place was achieved. Furthermore, the club moved into the cup final , where it was defeated by Rapid Bucharest . During the winter break 2007/08 Torje turned his back on his hometown and moved to Dinamo Bucharest . The transfer fee of two million euros makes it the most expensive transfer between two Romanian teams.

With third place in the league , Dinamo qualified for the Europa League . In the 2009/10 season , the midfielder then made his debut at European club level. In the game against the Dutch representative NEC Nijmegen , Torje came on for Zé Kalanga at half time. The game in Nijmegen was lost 0-1.

At the end of August 2011, he was signed by Udinese Calcio for seven million euros. He was loaned to FC Granada in the 2012/13 season and to Espanyol Barcelona in the 2013/14 season. After his return Udinese agreed a loan deal with the Turkish first division club Konyaspor for the 2014/15 season . For the 2015/16 season he was loaned by the new Turkish first division club Osmanlıspor FK .

In the summer of 2016, the Russian first division team Terek Grozny Torje signed. There he was only used irregularly and was loaned to the Turkish first division club Kardemir Karabükspor for the 2017/18 season.

National team

For Romania, Torje initially only played for various youth selections and is currently considered the most promising football talent in the country. He is the captain of the Romanian U-21 national football team . In September 2010 he made his debut in the senior national team in the European Championship qualifier against Albania . On February 9, 2011, he scored his first international goal in a tournament in Cyprus in a 1-1 draw against the hosts .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Romanian squad . At the European Championship opening game against France he was substituted on towards the end of the game, after which he was in the starting line-up against Switzerland. In the third and final game against Albania, he came back as a substitute. In the last third he should help to avert the 0-1 defeat. The team lost and was eliminated.

On November 20, 2008, his 19th birthday, Torje and his teammates Lucian Goian , Adrian Ropotan and Cristian Pulhac were secretly filmed by a girl at his party. On the tape, the three sing the club anthem of arch rival Steaua Bucharest . After the recording on the Romanian daily newspaper Libertatea became public, Goian and Pulhac were put on the transfer list by Dinamo , Torje and Ropotan had to apologize publicly. All players had to pay a fine of 5,000  euros .
