Suat Kaya (born August 26, 1967 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and today's coach .
Player career
In the club
Suat Kaya started playing football in 1979 at Yeşilköyspor . There he played for seven years and moved to Galatasaray Istanbul . In his first year he was not used which is why Kaya went to Konyaspor . At Konyaspor he secured a regular place as a defensive midfielder and played for five years. Galatasaray watched him during this time and gave him a second chance. Under Karl-Heinz Feldkamp , Suat played in the starting line-up in midfield, just like he did with Konyaspor. With the red-yellow he won several championships and cups. He achieved his greatest successes in 2000 when he won the UEFA Cup and the Supercup . His teammates called him Hugo .
In the national team
Suat Kaya played a total of 16 games for the Turkish national soccer team and scored one goal. Kaya played his first game on November 10, 1993 against Norway . The last game for the Turks he played against France on November 15, 2000. Before his resignation he was in the same year at the European Football Championship 2000 with Turkey, where Suat Kaya played all four games.
Coaching career
Kaya started his first coaching position as a youth coach at Galatasaray Istanbul. In 2006 he moved to Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor , where he stayed for half a season. In January 2007 went to league rivals Orduspor . After poor performance, Kaya went back to Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor. He later coached the second division Diyarbakirspor and the third division Tokatspor at short notice .
For the second half of the 2012/13 season, Kaya took over the second division side Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor for the third time in his coaching career . After the 10th day of the 2013/14 season, he left the club by mutual agreement.
In March 2014, Kaya was introduced to third division Göztepe Izmir as the new head coach. From the 2016/17 season until the end of the 2018/19 season, Kaya was the head coach at Menemen Belediyespor . There he and his team became champions of the TFF 2. Lig and thus one rose to the 2. Turkish league. In September 2019, Kaya became a coach at Sakaryaspor and left the club after two months.
