Player career

society

Özden began playing football on the street and played in the school team during his Abitur on the Tophane Endüstri Meslek Lisesi . During this time he attended a draft tournament organized by Bursaspor and was scouted here for the youth team. A short time later he separated because of differences of opinion from here and played for the amateur club Fethiye Köy SK . He then moved to the amateur club Sölöz Gençlerbirliği and was active for these three seasons. From here he moved to Bursa Gençlerbirliği .

During a league encounter of his team, he was discovered by the former player legend Metin Oktay . At that time, Oktay assisted Bursaspor 's head coach Toma Kaloperović . So he made sure that Özden moved to Bursaspor. Özden signed for the 1972/73 season for an annual salary of 12.5 Turkish lire. For a year Özden only trained with the professionals and during this time he was trained in shooting technique and position play by Metin Oktay, who was several times goal protection king of the Turkish league. For the next season he was then taken into account in the selection of the squad and made his first games for the professionals. His team made it to the final in the Turkish Football Cup and failed here at Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Özden was used in almost all cup games. In the 1974/75 season he came regularly to play as a substitute. The team also played in the European Cup Winners' Cup this season because of the cup final and made it to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated against the eventual cup winners Dynamo Kiev . With this achievement one achieved the best grade in the club's history. Özden played in two of a total of six European Cup encounters. The following season he finally achieved his breakthrough and he won a regular place in the team. He played a total of 13 seasons for Bursaspor, nine of which as team captain. During this time he had a share in the greatest successes in the club's history, which the club was able to win until 2009. These include the sixth place in the table in the 1976/77 season , the fourth place in the table in the 1979/80 season and winning the Turkish Football Cup in 1986.

With this first cup win in the club's history, he crowned his career and then announced the end of his playing career.

National team

Özden was nominated for the Turkish U-18 national team in the early 1970s and took part in a training camp. But after it turned out that Özden was not eligible to play due to a month's difference due to age, he was no longer nominated after the fight.

In 1976 he was from the national coach Coşkun Özarı for the Turkish Turkish national team , but was not used.

About a year later, in February 1977, he received a nomination for the Turkish U-21 national team as part of a Balkan Cup encounter and made his debut against the Bulgarian U-21s .

Just a month after this encounter, the new national coach Metin Türel nominated him for an encounter against the Romanian national team . In this encounter, which took place on March 23, 1977, Özden made his international debut. From then on he was one of the players who were regularly appointed to the national team. He was used for Turkey in the qualification of the European Championship 1980 and finished with his team behind Germany in the second place in the table in Group 7. He then played in the qualifying rounds of the 1978 World Championship , the 1980 European Championship , the 1982 World Championship , the 1984 European Championship and the 1986 World Cup . He completed a total of 34 games for the Ay-Yıldızlılar and scored seven goals. He took the captain's armband on three encounters. The last game of his national team career that he played as team captain was Turkey's first game at Wembley Stadium as part of a 1986 World Cup qualifier against the English selection . The game was lost 5-0 and resulted in a generation change in the national team, which meant that Özden was no longer considered.

Coaching career

After his active career, he took over the position of assistant coach at Bursaspor and assisted Tomislav Kaloperović . After he was released in November 1986, he took over the club as an interim trainer until the winter break.

Since then he has been active as a football expert in the regional media.

In 2011 he was introduced as the coordinator of the youth teams of Bursaspor. A short time later he was given an indefinite leave of absence from this position.
