Selahattin Özbir (born July 22, 1974 in Mannheim ) is a former German - Turkish soccer player . Due to his brief activity for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is associated with this club.

Player career

society

Özbir was born in Mannheim in 1974 as the son of Turkish guest workers and learned to play football in the youth teams of various local clubs. In the summer of 1995 he moved to Turkey's Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi to Afyonspor . With this move he followed his childhood friend Ümit Davala who had moved from Mannheim to Afyonspor a year earlier . At this club, he quickly made the leap into the regular formations. He caught the eye of the then coach of the Turkish national team , Fatih Terim , and was used twice in 1996 as a second division player in the national team. Through these international appearances, he fell on several first division clubs. The Istanbul top club Fenerbahçe reacted the fastest and signed the youngster for the summer of 1996. In his new club, Özbir could not fight for a regular place in two seasons and was loaned to the league competitor Kocaelispor in spring 1999 . Even at Kocaelispor, he only made two league appearances.

In the summer of 1999 he returned to Fenerbahçe and was released from this club. Özbir then moved to Antalyaspor and, after a short period, played for Yıldırım Bosnaspor and Göztepe Izmir before ending his career in the summer of 2003.
