Ümit Aydın Davala (born July 30, 1973 in Mannheim ) is a former Turkish soccer player and today's coach .

Player career

society

Davala, who grew up in Germany, began his career at VfR Mannheim . In the A-youth he came to ASV Feudenheim . From 1992 he played for the national league club FC Türkspor Mannheim before moving to Afyonspor in the second Turkish league in 1994 . Via İstanbulspor and Diyarbakırspor his way led to Galatasaray Istanbul , where he was under contract from 1996 to 2001. With Galatasaray he was four times Turkish champion, twice cup winners and won the 2000 UEFA Cup and the European Supercup . In the 1999/2000 season Davala took part with Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League and was there third after the group stage. The team secured third place and thus qualification for the UEFA Cup on the last day of the group with a 3-2 win over AC Milan, in which Davala scored with a penalty in added time.

In 2001 Davala followed his former coach Fatih Terim to AC Milan , where he lost his regular seat after Terim's dismissal in November. From 2002 local rivals Inter Milan took Davala under contract, but loaned him to his former club Galatasaray Istanbul. A year later Davala went to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga , initially on loan and from 2004 on with a permanent contract. With Werder he won the German championship and the DFB Cup in 2004 . The defensive player made his debut in the Bundesliga on the 3rd matchday of the championship season against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Coach Thomas Schaaf offered him in the 1-0 away win in the starting lineup.

Due to a complicated hip injury suffered in October 2005 and the strong competition, it was agreed to terminate the contract on December 31, 2005.

On March 3, 2006 Davala ended his active career.

National team

Davala made 62 international appearances for the Turkish national team . Since he was born in Germany, he could have played for the German national soccer team, but the DFB had no interest in the defender. His greatest achievement was third place at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea .

Coaching career

Shortly after the end of his active career, Davala acquired the necessary coaching licenses. Today he is in possession of the UEFA Pro license. On December 13, 2006, Davala took over the post of head coach of the Turkish U-21 national team . He then moved to his former employer Galatasaray Istanbul in early 2008, where he became Michael Skibbe's assistant trainer and interpreter . His contract and that of Edwin Boekamp were finally terminated on October 9, 2008 without Skibbe's knowledge.

From summer 2011 to the end of September 2013, Davala was again assistant coach at Galatasaray Istanbul, this time he supported Fatih Terim .

In the second half of the 2016/17 season he took over as coach of third division Tuzlaspor from February 1 to the end of the season .
