Erbil Uzel (born April 15, 1974 in Kırklareli , Turkey ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Because of his six years at Sarıyer SK , he is associated with this association. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. He was mainly active in the position of right-back, but also played at times in defensive midfield.

Erbil Uzel was born in 1969 in the western Turkish city of Kırklareli and started playing club football here as a youth in Kırklarelispor . For the 1990/91 season he was involved in the team training of the then third division team. A little later he was accepted as an amateur player in the squad of the professional team. On October 20, 1990, he made his professional debut at the third division match against Silivrispor and from then on belonged to the regular formation of his club.

After two seasons for his hometown club Kırklarelispor, he moved as an amateur player to Istanbul third division club Beylerbeyi SK . Here he fought for a regular place in December 1992 and scored eight goals in 16 league matches by the end of the season. Through this performance several teams of the upper leagues became aware of him.

The second division Aydınspor reacted the fastest and secured the services of the youngster. There he got the first professional contract of his career. This club had just been relegated from the top Turkish league (then as the 1st Lig , now known as the Süper Lig ) and was working on direct promotion. Until the winter break you qualified for the ascent round and only missed the ascent here. Uzel played 20 matches in his first second division season.

For the new season 1994/95 he moved within the league to first division relegated Karşıyaka SK . At this club, Uzel rose from the start to the top performers and contributed five league goals in 32 games as a defender. His club reached the championship of the 2nd Lig and thus the direct return to the 1st Lig . In the Süper Lig he was one of the most noticeable youngsters in the defensive field. At the end of the season he was appointed to the national team by national coach Fatih Terim and made his international debut .

Since Karşıyaka missed relegation, Uzel left the club and hired the Istanbul first division club Sarıyer SK . Here he also won a regular place and was one of the top performers of the club. Since at the end of the season the club failed to keep up, Uzel went with the team in the 2nd Lig. In the 2nd Lig Uzel played two seasons for Sarıyer. After making it twice in the promotion group, but there missed promotion, Uzel decided to change clubs.

For the 1999/00 season he moved to the southern Turkish first division club Adanaspor . While he had a regular place for Adanaspor in his first season, he fought for a regular place in the second season. His club missed relegation, so he went to the 2nd league with the team for the 2001/02 season . Here one reached through the 3rd place in the table, the direct rise in the meanwhile renamed the Süper Lig highest Turkish league.

After this success, his expiring contract was not renewed and he returned to his old club Sarıyer. This now played in the third highest Turkish league, which was then referred to as the 2nd Lig Bategorisi . While in the season the promotion to the 2nd Lig A CATEGORY failed, one achieved through the championship of the 2nd Lig B CATEGORY the direct promotion to the 2nd Lig A CATEGORY . Here you missed relegation at the end of the season. Uzel then ended his active football career after the end of his contract.

National team

For the upcoming friendly game against the Azerbaijani national team on April 9, 1996 , the then Turkish national coach Fatih Terim invited several young players into the squad of the Turkish national team for test purposes . In addition to such players as Ufuk Süer , Selahattin Özbir , Vedat İnceefe and Hakan Şimşek , Uzel was also one of the newly nominated players. In this game, he came on in the 86th minute for Engin Özdemir and completed his first and only international match.

Coaching career

Uzel has been a junior coach at his former club Sarıyer SK since 2010 .
