Edith Paischer

Edith Paischer (born May 24, 1929 in Mauerkirchen ; † October 15, 2015 in Braunau am Inn ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and a pensioner. From 1982 to 1991 she was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and Vice Mayor of the city of Braunau am Inn.

education and profession

Paischer attended elementary and secondary school from 1936 to 1944 and continued his education through courses. From 1944 to 1945 she was an office apprentice in the tax office in Braunau am Inn and then worked from 1946 to 1982 as an employee or secretary of the SPÖ district organization Braunau am Inn. Edith Paischer has been a “consultant for general cultural care” since 2009, and has been committed to cross-border cooperation in the field of culture and arts and crafts for many years. In 1995 she initiated the exhibitions "Innviertel-Bavarian Crafts" and is herself the creator of monastery work and promoter of old craft techniques.

Politics and functions

Paischer became a member of the Socialist Party of Austria and was active as a functionary of the SPÖ from 1949. Within the party, she took over the office of deputy district chairman of the SPÖ Braunau am Inn and was elected city councilor of Braunau am Inn in 1973. In 1979 she rose to the position of First Vice Mayor of the city of Braunau am Inn, where she held this office until 1982. Furthermore, she was chairwoman of the social and health committee of the city of Braunau am Inn from 1973 to 1986. Paischer also acted as chairwoman of the SPÖ women's organization and functionary of the local organization of the SPÖ Helpfau-Uttendorf and was a member of the extended federal women's committee. She was also deputy chairman of the SPÖ parliamentary group and a member of the club's executive committee, where she was a member of the federal council for the first time from March 17, 1982 to March 9, 1983. After a brief interruption, she was again a member of the Federal Council from April 15, 1983 to October 29, 1991.

Edith Paischer died on October 15, 2015 in Braunau am Inn.
