Air Force Museum of New Zealand
The Air Force Museum of New Zealand (formerly The Royal New Zealand Air Force Museum ) is an aviation and military museum in the New Zealand city of Christchurch . It is dedicated to the history of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and is one of three official museums of the country's armed forces , along with the National Army Museum in Waiouru and the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum in Auckland . The museum is located at the former Wigram Aerodrome military airfield about eight kilometers southwest of the city center.
The museum covers the history of military aviation in New Zealand, from New Zealand pilots in British formations in World War I, through World War II and the conflicts of the Cold War, to the peacekeeping and disaster relief missions of recent years. In addition to currently 31 aircraft, the collection also includes numerous aircraft components, technical devices, weapons, insignia, textiles, artistic works and everyday objects. Entry is free.
