Charles Lewis Beale

Charles Lewis Beale (born March 5, 1824 in Canaan , New York , † January 29, 1900 in Hudson , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1859 and 1861 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Lewis Beale graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1844 . He studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1849 and then began practicing in Canaan, Columbia County . In 1852 he moved to Kinderhook , where he continued to work as a lawyer. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1858 for the 36th Congress , Beale was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of New York , where he succeeded John Thompson on March 4, 1859 . In 1860 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1861 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. In 1866 he attended the Union National Convention in Philadelphia as a delegate . He died on January 29, 1900 in Hudson and was then buried in Kinderhook in the cemetery of the same name.
