Thomas R. Gold

Thomas Ruggles Gold (born November 4, 1764 in Cornwall , Colony of Connecticut , † October 24, 1827 in Whitesboro , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1809 and 1813 and between 1815 and 1817 .

Career

Thomas Ruggles Gold grew up during the British colonial era. He pursued classical studies and graduated from Yale College in 1786 . Gold studied law . After obtaining his license to practice law, he began practicing in Goshen . In 1792 he settled in Whitesboro, Oneida County . Between 1797 and 1801 he was Assistant Attorney General of New York. He sat in the New York Senate between 1797 and 1802 . In 1804 he ran unsuccessfully for the 9th Congress . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1808 . Politically he belongs to the Federalist Party .

In the congressional elections of 1808 for the 11th Congress he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded John Thompson on March 4, 1809 . After a successful re-election he suffered in 1812 a defeat and withdrew from the after March 3, 1813 Congress of. He was then elected to the 14th Congress in the 16th electoral district of New York in 1814 , where he succeeded Morris S. Miller on March 4, 1815 . Since he refused to run again in 1816 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1817.

After his time in Congress, he resumed his practice in Whitesboro. He died there on October 24, 1827 and was then buried in Grand View Cemetery .
