Henry Markell

Henry Markell (born February 7, 1792 in Stone Arabia , New York , † August 30, 1831 in Palatine , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1825 and 1829 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman Jacob Markell was his father.

Career

Henry Markell attended community schools. He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice. As a result of a fragmentation of the Democratic Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the Adams faction . In the 1824 congressional elections for the 19th Congress , Markell was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded John W. Cady on March 4, 1825 . After a successful re-election in 1826 in the 20th Congress , he left the Congress on March 3, 1829 . He died in Palatine on August 30, 1831 and was buried in the St. Johnsville , Montgomery County cemetery.
