William Ryan

William Ryan (born March 8, 1840 in Tipperary , Ireland , † February 18, 1925 in Crescent City , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Ryan was born in Tipperary in the Victorian Age . The family immigrated to the United States, settling in 1844 in Stanwich ( Connecticut ) low. He attended district schools there. In the spring of 1859 he moved to the Rocky Mountains to prospect and mine. He also took part in campaigns against the Indians until 1861. At that point he returned east and settled in Port Chester in Westchester County . He worked in agriculture, taught as a teacher and later went on to do business. Between 1883 and 1885 he was a supervisor in the Town ofRye . He served in the New York State Assembly in 1891 and 1892 . Politically belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1892 congressional election for the 53rd Congress , Ryan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 16th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded John H. Ketcham on March 4, 1893 . In 1894 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1895 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he went back to business in Port Chester. He was President of Port Chester Savings Bank and in 1912 President in the Village of Port Chester. He died on February 18, 1925 in Crescent City and was then buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich .
