Terence J. Quinn

Terence John Quinn (born October 16, 1836 in Albany , New York , † June 18, 1878 ibid) was an American officer and politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives in 1877 and 1878 .

Career

Terence John Quinn was born and raised in Albany about ten years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended private school and the Boys' Academy in his hometown. Quinn began working at his father's brewery early in his life and later became a senior member of the company. After the outbreak of the Civil War he signed up as a Second Lieutenant in Company B in the 25th  Regiment of the New York State Militia Volunteers , which was ordered to defend Washington, DC in April 1861 . He was stationed in Arlington Heights . Between 1869 and 1872 he was a member of the Albany Common Council . He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1873 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1876 for the 45th Congress , Quinn was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington DC in the 16th electoral district of New York, where he succeeded Charles H. Adams on March 4, 1877 . He served in Congress until his death. He died on June 18, 1878 in Albany and was then buried in St. Agnes' Cemetery .
