John Rogers (politician, 1813)
John Rogers (born May 9, 1813 in Caldwell (now Lake George ), New York , † May 11, 1879 at Fort Edward , New York) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Rogers was born in Caldwell during the British-American War . He completed his preliminary studies. In 1832 he moved to Black Brook , Clinton County , where he made iron. He was a supervisor in Black Brook Town for ten years and held several other local offices. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the 1870 congressional elections for the 42nd Congress , Rogers was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Orange Ferriss on March 4, 1871 . He retired from the after March 3, 1873 Congress of.
After his time at the Congress he went back to the production of iron. On May 11, 1879, he died in "Rogers Place" near Fort Edward in Washington County . His body was buried in the family cemetery on his estate in Moreau near Fort Henry.
