John Quincy Underhill (born February 19, 1848 in New Rochelle , New York , † May 21, 1907 there ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Quincy Underhill was born and raised in New Rochelle, Westchester County , about two weeks after the end of the Mexican-American War . He attended private and public schools and the College of the City of New York . Then he went into insurance business. In 1877 he was the Village Trustee of New Rochelle. He was elected President of the Village in 1878 and re-elected in 1880. He served as a town auditor . Then he sat on the education committee for several years. He worked for 19 years for the Westchester Fire Insurance Co. , where he President and Treasurer ( treasurer was). Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1898 for the 56th Congress , Underhill was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded William L. Ward on March 4, 1899 . Since he on a run again in 1900 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1901 Congress of. He then retired. He died on May 21, 1907 in New Rochelle and was then buried in Beechwoods Cemetery .
