William W. Cohen, 1921

William Wolfe Cohen (born September 6, 1874 in Brooklyn , New York , † October 12, 1940 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1929 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Wolfe Cohen was born about nine years after the end of the Civil War in the then still separate city of Brooklyn. He attended public schools. He then went on to manufacture shoes with his father until 1903, after which he pursued banking and brokerage. He was vice chairman of the Public Schools Athletic League and honorary deputy chief in the New York Fire Department. He was also a member of the New York Stock Exchange and was a director of the New York Cotton Exchange .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1926 congressional election for the 70th Congress , Cohen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 17th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Ogden L. Mills on March 4, 1927 . Since he on a run again in 1928 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1929 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he went back to his previous business in New York City. He died there on October 12, 1940 and was then buried in Mount Neboh Cemetery in Brooklyn.
