Aaron Hackley Junior

Aaron Hackley junior (born May 6, 1783 in Wallingford , Connecticut , † December 28, 1868 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1819 and 1821 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Aaron Hackley Jr. was born and raised in Wallingford, New Haven County , about three months before the end of the Revolutionary War . During this time he attended public schools and then graduated in 1805 at Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ). Hackley moved to Herkimer . He became in 1812 the town clerk ( county clerk selected) and re-elected 1815th He was a Judge Advocate during the British-American War . He served in the New York State Assembly in 1814, 1815, and 1818 .

As an opponent of an overly strong central government, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson at that time . In the 1818 congressional elections for the 16th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 17th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Thomas H. Hubbard on March 4, 1819 . He retired after the March 3, 1821 from the Congress and its predecessor Hubbard was his successor.

Between 1828 and 1833 he served as the district attorney in Herkimer County . In 1837 he was again in the New York State Assembly. He served as judge in the St. Lawrence County Judicial District in 1823 and 1824 . Then he was a Masters at the New York Court of Chancery . He became a recorder in Utica . He died on December 28, 1868 in New York City and was then buried in Trinity Church Cemetery . At that point the civil war had ended for about three years.
