Alfred Edward Santangelo (born June 4, 1912 in New York City , † March 30, 1978 in Orlando , Florida ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1957 and 1963 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alfred Edward Santangelo was born in New York City about two years before the outbreak of World War I. He attended public schools. He received his Bachelor of Arts from City College of New York in 1935 and his Bachelor of Laws from Columbia University School of Law in 1938 . He was admitted to the bar in 1939 and then began practicing in New York City. He served as the deputy district attorney in 1945. He sat in the New York Senate between 1947 and 1950 and between 1953 and 1956 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1956 congressional elections for the 85th Congress , Santangelo was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded James G. Donovan on January 4, 1957 . He was re-elected twice in a row. In 1962 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after January 3, 1963 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. As a delegate, he took part in the New York Constituent Assembly in 1967 . He lived in the Bronx . He died on March 30, 1978 in Orlando and was then buried in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside .
