Theodore S. Weiss

Theodore S. "Ted" Weiss (born September 17, 1927 in Gávavencsellő , Hungary ; † September 14, 1992 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1977 and 1992 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Theodore Weiss attended primary school in Hungary until 1938. At that time, the family immigrated to the United States and settled in South Amboy ( New Jersey down). There he went to public schools and graduated from Hoffman High School in 1946 . He made his Bachelor of Arts in 1961 at Syracuse University and 1952 there his Bachelor of Laws . After receiving his bar license in 1953, he began practicing in New York City. In 1946 and 1947 he served in the US Army . He was naturalized to the United States in 1953. Between 1955 and 1959 he held the post as assistant district attorney in New York County . He then ran his own law firm in New York City between 1959 and 1976. During that time, he served on the New York City Council from 1962 to 1977 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . As a delegate he took part in the New York State Democratic Convention in 1962 and in 1972 in the Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach .

In the 1976 congressional elections for the 95th Congress , Weiss was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Guy Molinari on January 4, 1977 . He was re-elected seven times in a row, but died during his final term on September 14, 1992 in New York City.
