William Mason (politician)

William Mason (born September 10, 1786 in Lebanon , Connecticut , † January 13, 1860 in Norwich , New York ) was an American doctor and politician . Between 1835 and 1837 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Mason was born in New London County about three years after the Revolutionary War ended . He studied medicine in Vermont and then practiced in Preston . During the British-American war served it in 1812 as a surgeon ( surgeon ) in Chenango County Company of New York Volunteers . In 1820 and 1821 he was a clerk in Chenango County. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1821 and 1822 . Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the 1834 congressional elections for the 24th Congress , Mason was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry Mitchell on March 4, 1835 . He retired from the after 3 March 1837 Congress of.

Mason died in Norwich on January 13, 1860 and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery .
